ACDS Goes GREEN

April 30, 2013

Stemming from our study of Global Warming and Climate Change for our Festival of Learning (FOL), the 7th graders wanted to do something more for the ACDS community. How could we take what we are learning on a national and global level, and bring it home to our town, our school? Following an All School Assembly led by the 7th graders, the entire school did several things to reduce our carbon foot print. From turning off all the lights, to taking class outside, to using reusable containers and water bottles, grades K-8, facultly and staff all contributed to the initiative. The most exciting part of our Go Green Day was that each grade planted something in our garden.

Bahrain Comes to ACDS

April 12, 2013
As a culminating event at the end of their study of Islam and Arabic Culture, the 6th graders invited the entire ACDS community to experience an authentic bazaar. Bahrain was one of our partner schools for the 20/20 Challenge and learning about that region of the world was fun. Even though we would have loved to have been able to take a field trip to the Middle East, bringing Bahrain our school seemed like the next best thing. Thank you, 6th grade and Ms. Herre for your leadership on this!
